This is our Final Edit of our film Final Seduction

Question One

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In order to to create our opening scene we had to look at a number of opening scenes from different films. This is so that we could get ideas on how we would have our own opening scene.

Here you can see that we have an over the shoulder shot of the docks with the titles on the bottom right hand side.

We got this idea of using the titles at the bottom of the screen from the film The Conversation as there is an establishing shot followed by the titles which you can see below. Which we have also done.

Most of our inspiration was taken from the film The Last Seduction. The film influenced us so much as we have a similar title and plot. As we watched the opening scene we instantly knew we had to do something like this as most people think of a thriller with stalkers and killings, so we thought we should think outside the box.

Question Seven.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in the progression from the full product?

Looking back at our preliminary task, Our group have realised how we gained new skills and also how we developed our existing skills throughout this process. The preliminary task helped us alot as while filming we realised how this task will help us to film our thriller sequence. As none of us have had previous experience with filming. Therefore we took advantage of this task from doing this we now have a full understanding of how to film, edit and also create soundtracks.

Below we have a clip of our bloppers which contain different clips from each film. These bloppers show some mistakes that occured while we were filming. After looking at these mistakes we now know how we improved key elements like mise en scene, editing, filming. But not only did we improve our skills they also were downgraded.

Skills that were improved

Many of our skills were improved while filming, but I am going to explain in great detail which skills were majorly improved.

Mise en scene

I personally feel that the mise en scene that we created for the escort was of a high standard. As not only did we dress 'Charlotte' in s

mart clothes accompanied by a pair of high heals. We also bought a blonde wig. This shows that mise en scene was one of our main aspects throughout the sequence. Not only did we dress 'Charlotte' we also paided attention to 'Lauren' who handed over an important piece of paper, as we added a pair of high heals and a black blazer, which made her look sophiscated and from a high class background. We also added a shirt to the male 'Jevoney' which helped him to look smart aswell. We focused on mise en scene as in our premilinary task, it wasnt an important factor, therefore it didnt look as good as we wanted it to be. Although we gave 'Lauren' a watch, we should of added more props and clothing to make her character more obvious. Here are some photos to help my opinion look more clearer.

Match Cuts

Although our match were not bad in our preliminary task, our group felt that we should make them look better in our thriller sequence. Therefore we made sure that our match cuts were of a high standard. The audiences that watched our thriller sequence, mainly commented on our match cuts. By saying they were good and they enjoyed them.

Certain aspects of the preliminary task that we didn't improve.

While filming our thriller sequence, we experimented with various amounts of shots. Including close ups, establishing shots, wide shots ect. But while filming our thriller sequence, we came across a shot that was not filmed at a high standard. Therefore, unfortunately our shots weren't filmed at a high standard.

Question Six.

This video shows what types of technology we used while creating our thriller sequence. We came across many types of software and technical equipment that we never used before. Software like Live type, soundtrack pro and final cut pro.

Question 5

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Whilst we where filming my group thought that the age range for this film would be aimed at the technically savvy aged 16-25.

The techincally savvy are interested in fashion, most likely at college or have a job. Maybe driving or learning to drive, spending hours on the computer on social networking sites, always texting and on the phone keeping in touch with friends. Going shopping, cinema, partying and getting drunk with their friends.

Sabrina, 17, London - Sabrina is a college student currently studying fashion. She has a weekend job as a sales assistant. Sabrina enjoys hanging out with her friends and spending time with her boyfriend. In Sabrina's bag she has perfume showing she likes to smell nice as well as having a few bits of make up showing she likes to keep her self looking nice.

Josh, 18, Hackney - Josh is currently a student finishing college this year. He is intrested in footbal and enjoys playing sports with his mates. In Josh's bag he has deodrant so he can keep his hygiene up to standards. he also has his trainers in his bag.

Victoria, 17, Stockwell - Victoria is currently a student studying photography, critical and contextual studies and socialagy. In Victoria's bag she has a magazine showing she is intrested in fashion but also tha she likes to keep up to date with all the celebrities life's.

Question 3 & 4

What kind of media institution might describe your media product and why? how will you attract/address your audience

This is a student thriller which has been distributed on the internet. It has had a large number of hits, 7664.

The internet has been used to launch this movie to a wider audience. this has been done by putting the film on youtube so that anybody can watch it.

if i was to put my filn on the internet i would put it on youtube but i would alo put it on the following networking sites:

Bebo

On these sites i would make a page for the film so that people can find infomation about the film.

Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Whilst we was planning out work we had a choice of two stereo types that we could choose from. These were either a prostitute or an escort. We had a discussion on which would best suit our film and how it could change the outline of the film.

After our discussion we chose the escort as we thought it would be more classy and appeal to the audience more. Also we thought that if we chose the prostitute it could give out the wrong impression. However, we are pleased with the way our mise en scene came across.

To get the mise en scene right we watched different trailers to get inspiration from. The film that we thought most related to ours was the Last Seduction. We looked at how the escort was dressed and how we bring this out in our film. In the Last Seduction they used a light brown bob, with a natural look and was smarly dressed. In out film the escort had a blonde bob wig on as the girl already had brown hair which she soon reveals at the end of the scene.

Question Eight

Audience feedback and comments on our thriller opening

There are alot of positive words showing on the wordle image. What suprised us was how big hooker appeared as this showed that alot of the audience picked up on the idea of our character stereotype.

The Story Board

These were our storyboards. Although during filming we realised not all of them was needed. we found out the long shots of the buildings was unneccasary as it had nothing to do with the film itself

Pitch

To enable us to start filming our thriller sequence we had to sell our ideas to our teachers. Therefore we made a slideshow which consists of locations, treatment, production company, skills audit etc. Here are some screenshots to show our pitch.

Our rough cut thriller: Final Seduction

This is our rough cut of the film final seduction that we are making. We recieved feedback from our teachers and we had agreed to change some of the scenes such as when the man is standing in the hallway waiting to answer the door. to make this scene more effective we decided to have the man walking up to the door once the woman had knocked on the door. We feel this is a better idea because it is as if the man is standing there knowing she is going to be knocking.

Preliminary Match Cut

Today we had our preliminary match cut exercise. In the lesson we were given a synopsis "A character opens a door, walks into a room, sits down opposite another character and they share a few lines of dialogue. " In the film we had to make sure we included at least one match cut, an example of shot/reverse shot and showing out understanding of the 180 degree rule. This went better then the bag swap as we are now more experienced in using the camera by now and have a better understanding of editing.

Final edit of livetype and sound filming practice

Today was out first real chance to be able to film something. We had to film a bag swap and we thought the perfect location would be at the canal. We struggled at first, as we needed to get used to the camera and recording. Also we had to create some suspense whilst filming this as first we struggled to find a way to do this. We soon thought that we could use the camera to portray this.

After we had filmed we edited the film by putting the best clips we had together to create our film. To do this we used a programme called Final Cut Pro. This programme allows you to edit clips and add different clips to your film.

Skills Audit: Livetype and Sound

In the lesson today, I learnt about two more programmes which allow you to add certain aspects to the film such as sound and credits. At first my group found it hard to use these but in the end we started to get used to it and we allowed ourselves to be able to incorporate these into the film we made during the bag swap.

Intro to Cameras & Health and Safety Tutorial

Today we had the introduction into how to use the cameras and how to stay safe whilst using them.  I thought this was interesting as I had never used a video camera before and learnt a lot in the process of this. 

News And Current Affairs: Haiti

Haiti

On Tuesday 12th January 2010 an earthquake hit Haiti. One of the poorest countries in the West End Hemisphere. Things in the country have gone from bad to worse. 

After the first earthquake hit, the surroundings and buildings of Haiti had been completely demolished, all that was left was rubble and bricks throughout the damaged city. The majority of the people were either injured, lost or even worse dead. 

I think this would be a good idea as a thriller because a lot of suspense would be created throughout the film. This is because the audience will want to know what will happen to the characters, will they live or die? Also, the audience will be allowed to learn about the effects of global warming and how the earthquake is created and the damage it can do to a country like Haiti. 

Thriller Sub-Genres

There are many different types of Thrillers, these can be put into sub-genres such as:

• Sci-Fi
• Spy

the type of thriller that is inspiring me is the psychological thriller. This is because they require deep thinking in order to find out the plot of the film. however, they tend to have an interesting twist at the end of the film, that the audience is not necessarily expecting.

Images: In the opening sequence of Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, the images show famous American Buildings for example the Empire State Building, The White House and also the American Flag. This is showing that the superhero's show authority to their country and also, by showing the famous batman and superman symbols. There has been a huge amount of the use of pop art colours, for example, the use of yellow, red, blue and white have been used to create a 1950's vibe. 

There has been different types of shots being displayed for example, established shots have been used to show iconic images which symbolize america for example, the Empire State Building etc.

This title sequence appeals to me as the images and colours are very bold, bright and unusual. this will also help to appeal to fans if they are a fan of the pop art. 

Technical audit of Bait tutorial

In the lesson today we was taught how to use a programme which allows you to put together the clips for your film. You could also cut part of the clip out where you wanted as well as put different clips in an order that you want. I had a go at doing this and i found it very easy to use. Here, in the picture opposite you are able to see the programme and the screen shot of part of the film i had created.

Photo "words" activity

In the lesson my group took a number of pictures to show very simple images can evoke a variety of different moods and feelings. However, I have only chosen a few images to talk about, these are Claustrophobic, City, Depression and Hang.

This picture is showing the word Claustrophobic. Our group decided to have a girl in a small corner of a building looking down on the road below. However, we chose for the image to be looking down on the girl to show the amount of space given.

This is showing the word "city". However this is showing a certain mood because you can see the dark grey sky as well as the fog you can see towards the back of the image. I think the picture evokes the word city because you can see the cities skyline but it is also showing it is a bit mysterious as you cannot see all of it due to the fog. We used an established shot to get a sense of location but the picture is also suggesting the sub-genre which will be based on a political story.

This picture is evoking the word "depression". Here you can see a girl crouching on the floor to show she is vulnerable but you can also tell she is depressed because she has a needle at her wrists resulting in the depression.

Here, in this picture you are able to tell this picture is evoking the word "hang" we have chosen to use a girl hanging herself off a door with her scarf. The girl's hair is covering her face so you are un-able to see the emotions on her face
